Best Experience Gifts in Glasgow for Couples: Why Comedy Tops the List

While we all love those stay-at-home, order a takeaway and watch a film date nights, sometimes sitting on your hoop with your Just Eat being just round the corner for the past 2 hours and falling asleep during Netflix and Chill doesn’t cut it – and who doesn’t love sharing a joke between two?
That’s what experience gifts in Glasgow are all about. Physical presents are great, but what about a night of laughs you’ll be chuckling about into your chips and cheese all the way home?
Down in the basement at Blackfriars on Bell Street, our seats are packed with the shoulder-to-shoulder buzz you only find at a live comedy show.
It’s simple to gift, too: pick a show or send an instant e-voucher and let them choose the date! Then bundle it up with dinner, drinks or something extra, and you’ve got a night that practically plans itself.
Why Stuart Mitchell Comedy Club tops the list
The experience
Our intimate basement room (36 Bell St, G1 1LG) is tailor-made for laughs. Tucked away beneath Blackfriars in Merchant City, doors typically open 15–30 minutes before showtime (so you’ve got plenty of time to grab a round before things start).
Shows run for 90 minutes with a short interval for our strictly 18+ audiences (and, don’t worry: you can take your bar drinks into the room).
Hosting
Stuart Mitchell is more than just your MC. He’s also one of Scotland’s sharpest stand-ups, with over 100 million TikTok views and the longest-running panellist spot on BBC Scotland’s Breaking the News! A seasoned TV-and-radio comic, live on stage.
Wondering where you’ve seen him before? Stuart Mitchell has also fronted his own BBC Radio 4 stand-up series (Cost of Living, with follow-up Cost of Dying). And yes, he’s done all this with only 8 fingers, but that’s a story you’ll need to book a ticket for to find out why.
Tickets and vouchers
Sometimes, date nights need to be flexible. Maybe the babysitter’s pretending to do homework while sneaking out to SWG3 or work has you busier than Claudia Winkleman’s hairdresser. In any case, comedy is always here to make date night easier.
Keep things easy by purchasing one of our instant e-voucher codes from £10–£100: they’ll land straight in your inbox. A quick heads up: weekend spots often go limited or sell out entirely, so be sure to lock in a date as early as possible.
Bundle it up: easy date packages to gift
What’s the point in giving experience gifts in Glasgow if you’re not making use of the whole day? We host comedy shows in the early afternoon and well into the night (our latest shows end at 10:30pm, perfect if you’ve got somewhere else to be or have been needing an excuse for a late night kebab).
If you’re booking an evening show, why not start with pre-show pints and proper pub grub upstairs at Blackfriars? Does your partner love whisky? Maybe you do! Wander through the Clydeside Distillery itself before sampling some of Glasgow’s best bourbon.
If (like us) you’re putting comedy first, join for one of our early afternoon slots (12pm–1:30pm), then take your date to one of Glasgow’s axe-throwing bars to compliment the razor sharp wit you’ve just head with a razor sharp weapon. Or if you prefer to relax after laughs? Head to one of Glasgow’s many spas to debrief on the laughs and destress.
The combos are endless. What’s consistent is the laughs.
1. Dinner + Laughter
When you want cask ales and classic comfort dishes, Blackfriars, just upstairs, is the proper Glasgow pub for the job. Share a romantic Mexican Chicken pizza, or lock eyes over a piping hot plate of Currywurst loaded fries and hope that the heat between you and your beloved later isn’t dinner repeating itself.
When it comes time to take your place for the show, there are lots of options on tap (Moretti, Neck Oil, John Smiths), wines, fizz, whisky and more.
If you’d prefer to make a night of Merchant City, grab a table a few steps away at favourites like Café Gandolfi (Albion St) or Mharsanta (Bell St) before or after the show. For more eatery inspiration, check out our blog on date night ideas.
2. Comedy + Whisky
Ever versatile, our comedy shows can be enjoyed before or after a visit to Glasgow’s legendary Clydeside Distillery.
As experience gifts go in Glasgow, this one allows you to pick your pace by the hour: there’s the classic Clydeside Tour for Two (£39 for 1 hour), or the indulgent Chocolate & Whisky Tour for Two (£78 for 1 hour 20 minutes).
Or, if you really want to splash out on date night, the Whisky Creator Tour for Two is £180 total for two participants. The best part? All are sold as 12-month gift e-vouchers. Experience gifts in Glasgow can be enjoyed whenever you want.
3. Comedy + Spa
Give your partner a luxurious morning of relaxation at the Spa at Kimpton Blythswood Square, then round it off with laughs at Stuart Mitchell Comedy Club.
Pick a morning-friendly option like the First Light Thermal Pass (90 mins, morning entry), Sunrise Serenity Spa Day (55-min treatment + 2 hours in the thermal suite), or a simple Thermal Experience Pass (2 hours).
You can expect hydro pools, saunas and steam rooms, even a snow shower, all in Glasgow city centre, showing that it’s true what they say about Scottish weather - you can get all the seasons in one day (now with some laughs included).
4. Axe Throwing + Comedy
For some date nights are all about adrenaline, and what more of a rush could you ask for than aiming for the bullseye then potentially becoming the target yourself in the front row of a comedy club.
Warm up your throwing arm at a central Glasgow venue like BOOM BATTLE BAR (St Enoch Centre) or Hatchet Harry’s, both of which sell instant gift vouchers, then head to Blackfriars for the main event.  Just pair an axe-throwing voucher with your comedy club ones, we guarantee at least one will hit the mark - our money is on the comedy.
