Where to stay in Glasgow on a budget
If you’re coming to Glasgow for a night at Stuart Mitchell’s Comedy Club, it makes no sense to waste half your budget on a hotel room. Cost-effective doesn’t have to mean boring, and it definitely doesn’t have to mean staying miles away from the action just to save £10.
If you’re wondering where to stay in Glasgow, we’ve got options that’ll keep you close enough to 36 Bell Street that you can roll out of the comedy club and still have enough money left for a late-night bite.
To save you the scrolling, we’ve put together a quick, no-nonsense roundup of cheap and cheerful spots right on our doorstep.
1. The Social Hub Glasgow
Address: 15 Candleriggs Square, Glasgow G1 1TQ, UK
The Social Hub Glasgow deserves a place on this list because it offers a central Merchant City location without the flat, no-personality feel that budget stays can sometimes slip into.
It’s a massive space right in the middle of Merchant City, meaning you’re basically next door to us and can skip the late-night taxi queues completely (it’s just a three-minute walk away).
Inside, it feels much more lively than your standard, ‘stuffy’ hotel. The ground floor is huge, with plenty of room to grab a drink or play some ping pong before heading out to the gig.
There's even a rooftop bar to check out the city skyline. It’s especially suitable for couples, groups of friends, or larger bookings.
2. Moxy Glasgow Merchant City
Address: 210 High Street, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, G4 0QW
The Moxy experience begins exactly how a night out should start: at the bar. Instead of waiting in line at a reception desk, you can get your room key along with a cocktail – the night has already started before you’ve even dropped your bag.
The hotel is at 210 High Street, which keeps you within easy reach of Blackfriars, 36 Bell Street (a five-minute walk), and right on the edge of the Merchant City.
In the rooms, you’ll find massive 42-inch smart TVs where you can cast your own Netflix or YouTube, loads of USB ports right by the bed, and motion-sensor LED lights under the bed.
Best of all, there's a 24/7 grab-and-stay section by the bar where you can pick up snacks, drinks, or sandwiches whenever you want. It’s brilliant if you're coming back from the gig and need a quick bite before bed.
3. Revolver Hotel
Address: 62 Virginia Street, Glasgow
Revolver Hotel is a good option if you're looking for a place that falls midway between a hostel and a cheap hotel.
As it's on Virginia Street (and less than ten minutes from Blackfriars), you can stay close to the club without having to pay the higher costs associated with the city centre.
Their motto, ‘Sleep, Meet, Repeat’, says a lot about the social aspect of Revolver, where you can choose to stay in everything from boutique private rooms and full apartments to shared dorms. It also offers free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour front desk, which makes late check-in after a show much easier.
When you enter, expect plenty of neon lights, murals (some featuring local icons), and a communal area with a pool table – excellent for a pre-show match.
Just be aware – Revolver Hotel is located above some of the city's most iconic nightlife (like the Polo Lounge), so it’s adult-only.
4. Ibis Styles Glasgow Centre George Square
Address: 74 Miller Street, Glasgow, G1 1DT, United Kingdom
Ibis Styles Glasgow Centre George Square has everything you want nearby.
You’re on Miller Street, right beside places like Paesano, The Spanish Butcher, El Santo and Thundercat, with Princes Square and the shops of Ingram Street close by if you want to make a full afternoon of it.
For getting in and out of the city, Queen Street is about a 4-minute walk, and Central is about 7 minutes. Inside the hotel, the focus is on a high-energy, friendly atmosphere – perfect for an evening or two away.
One of the best perks for show-goers is the 24/7 access to free hot drinks in the lobby and a round-the-clock bar, meaning you can sit and decompress with a post-show drink regardless of when the set finishes.
